Is charlie gay in the whale
“The Whale” explores the life of a lonely, obese gay man
Charlie has congestive heart failure and refuses to go to the hospital because he has no insurance. He prefers the company of Liz Hong Chau in an excellent performance , who cares for him and manages his needs. Now that Charlie is near death, he hopes to reconnect with his teenage daughter, Ellie Sadie Sink , whom he left to be with Alan when she was 8.
The Whale: parenthood, gay love and heartbreak
In his most recent film, mother! Charlie describes himself as gay and refers to his eight-year marriage as a mistake. The possibility of Charlie being bisexual is never brought up. His obesity certainly has little to do with his real sins, abandoning his wife and daughter for a student half his age and refusing medical care.
His daughter, however, seemingly wants nothing to do with him, but still manages to burst into the room whenever she has a beef with him. Still, it all seemed worth it for a climactic reaction which connected, however briefly. Morton, who arrives late in the film, also ramped up the intensity just when it felt like we had been covering the same ground one too many times.
